Church Planting

"The single most effective evangelistic methodology under heaven is planting new churches." C. Peter Wagner Church Planting for a Greater Harvest

Hill Country Bible Church Round Rock was planted in September 2007 as a part of a movement of churches who desire to impact Greater Austin with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  The first Hill Country Bible Church (NW) was started in 1987 as one church of 17 believers and has grown into a movement of thousands of growing disciples engaged in nineteen vibrant Hill Country Bible Churches. Each church is committed to the passionate and sacrificial pursuit of the Vision. However, it will take tens of thousands of growing disciples in many different types of these missional congregations throughout Greater Austin to see the Vision become a reality.  What is our vision?

That every man, woman, and child would have the chance to experience the life-changing reality of Jesus Christ because they hear the gospel from the lips of someone at a Hill Country Bible Church.

Our association of churches has a three-pronged strategy to reach the 1.6 million (and counting) men, women, and children who who call Greater Austin their home.  These strategies include:

  • Strategy #1: multiplying disciples
  • Strategy #2: planting spiritually vibrant and strategically located churches
  • Strategy #3: partnering with like minded ministries

In response to this God-given vision, the elders of Hill Country Bible Round Rock prayerfully voted in 2008 to plant our first church in the fall of 2009.  This new church, Summit Community Church started in September of 2009, with Josh Cagle as its lead pastor.  We are currently in the prayer and planning stages for our next church plant.  As HCB-RR continues to plant churches, some questions get asked frequently.  Here are a few answers...

1) Aren't there already enough churches in Austin?

  • Less than 17% of the people in Austin attend church
  • Only 8% attend an evangelical church
  • Church attendance was down 18% from 1990 to 2000 despite a net gain of 89 churches
  • To keep up with the growing population it was estimated there needed to be at least 415 new churches over that 10 year period

2) Why would HCB-RR plant a church and give away core families before they build their own building?

  • What a new church does first sets its priorities as a congregation
  • Building campaigns will come as space dictates, but church-planting will always be a goal
  • God has called us to be an "open-handed" congregation that gives radically and trusts Him with the results

In pursuit of the Vision to reach Austin and utilizing our strategy of planting churches, the association has established a Church Planting Training Center to prepare Pastors to team with growing disciples and plant strategically located churches throughout Greater Austin.
